What is respite care?

Respite is the provision of care in a residential care facility for a set period of time.

At St Catherine’s this period is for a minimum two-week continual period and provides access to 24 hour a day care including all activities, meals, laundry and cleaning services.
Respite residents live alongside permanent residents, which helps foster connection, create genuine shared experiences and ensure that everyone feels part of the St Catherine’s community.

Why choose respite care?

We acknowledge caring can be rewarding, but also physically and emotionally challenging. We understand and appreciate the dedication and commitment involved with full-time care.

Temporary respite can assist relieve the stress on a carer and for their loved one receiving care, and it is also often a comfortable way to trial the lifestyle of residential aged care or assist a loved one gradually transition into permanent residency.

How do I apply?

At St Catherine’s we have two permanent respite rooms, offering a private fully furnished bedroom with ensuite and a fixed phone line. Residents can also use their own mobile phone if preferred.

Prior to acceptance into respite care, a person must already have an approved ACAS or Single Assessment. This entitles the person to 63 days of respite per financial year, providing the opportunity to trial different aged care facilities.

Respite is offered on a planned or emergency basis and is subject to availability. Bookings are accepted up to twelve months in advance, but due to the limited nature of respite places and rooms, such spots fill quickly.
